What are you looking for in your “40A Cherry Blossom (Custom Style)”
    A descriptor would be nice.

When you go to register an entry, you can click on “View Accepted Styles”, then scroll down to the bottom of the popup. There you will find this description:

“This is a special category for cherry blossom-themed beers. The requirement is that the beer include at least one flower-based ingredient. This can include (but is not limited to) dried-flowers (such as herbal tea), honey, or fruit. Preference will be given to beers with a cherry product.”

My wife read about the competition in the Washingtonian this morning. It states that the deadline is March 15, but I was wondering if you still accept entries? I have a Koelsch, using a yeast from my hometown (Huechelner Urstoff/Stecken Koelsch) from Frechen Germany. Around this time (when it is colder) I make a decent version of this Koelsch.

Sorry – the competition is definitely closed. There is, however, the Sam Adams competition coming up next month, so you definitely have time for that. It requires dedicating a half batch if you make it to the finals, but the grand prize (a trip to the Yakima Valley for the Hops Union hop harvest) is worth it: Sam Adams Competition

On the Homebreers Association website, mention was made of the Chodsko Pivo Czech Pilsner Best in Show for the 2015 Cherry Blossom competition ( The mash details don’t seem complete to me. They mention mashing in at 148, but no comment is made for the duration of the rest at 148. Can you provide the details, or please forward this request to Shawn Scott? Thanks, looking forward to brewing this!)
